How I Booked An Interview With The Founder of Miley Cyrus, and The Producer of Fireproof, Facing The Giants

It all comes down to this folks, and how do you build connections?
You network your *ss off.

My partner, Doug Deneve, has been a music industry executive for over 25 years and he brings a lot to Manifest Your Dreams Publicity, especially connections. When we finished up with our contact for Ben Davies in COURAGEOUS The Movie, Doug immediately built rapport with Nise Davies of Advantage Models and Talent, the agency responsible for Miley Cyrus’ first modeling and acting gigs.

Our first show was with David Nixon, the co producer for Facing The Giants, Fireproof and Director for Letters to God, a smash hit in the faith based film sector.

I could not teach you enough, since I was the man to call up David Nixon, and I was the man that Nise called when the show was about ready to start.

What is the PURPOSE of Communication?

The purpose is to make a difference. To persuade (not manipulate, these are different) your audience or subject into believing your side of view, and taking action that will benefit your business or personal life. Its all about benefit in your own life. I learned these secrets from Skip Weisman, a 10 year communications expert and marketing pro.

Tip #1

Assume Rapport

Everybody talks about building rapport. This is the first thing I learned in working my offline marketing gig when I was 18. It was a Fortune 500 company and they were “gun-ho” about training. I learned a lot, but instead, ASSUME rapport. When walking into a meeting, act as if you’ve known the person their whole life. This will make conversation so much easier. Be Posiitive, Friendly and make notes about what they like, dislike, their family, etc. Will help you later!

Tip #2

Kiss it: Keep it short and simple

The more you talk the more the subject’s impulse drops. This means that the more you talk the more the “interest” in what you’re saying falls to the floor. Instead of giving some drawn out pitch, offer 2-3 keypoints and move onto the close.

… sorry, I can’t help but keep coming back to CONNECTIONS. Connections are key. Connect with the right people and your success will happen, Just look them on Facebook and find a mutual contact that can introduce you. 😉

Tip #3

Their Time Is Valuable

Just along the lines of “Kiss it”, remember that you bothered them during their day. Their time is valuable. Actually ask, “Is this a good time for you?” and then say “I know your time is valuable so I won’t take up too much of your time” …


In conclusion, Its important to make the right connections (LOL). You knew I’d say it, didn’t you?
If you’re building rapport and kissing it with the wrong connections, business will may go a little further, but not as far as you’d hoped it would.
