Are you follow worthy?
From my experience with Twitter over the past few years, I’ve learned that not many truly understand or get how to use it, and I’m referring to the majority … BIG TIME! … so I’m going to address some common questions with some tips. I won’t be able to cover all of the things I know here.
First we need to look at:
What is the purpose of twitter? … it’s a social network, which means it’s not to be used uncaringly for promoting “non stop” spam to your followers. You will most definitely lose trust with your followers if you do this. Now, I’m not saying that you cannot share your blog posts or occasionally send out a promotion, but what I learned years ago when if I first started tweeting is the 10/1 rule.
The 10/1 rule took me awhile to “get” and “apply” but I’m finally utilizing it effectively. It’s a “general rule of thumb” for promotions. For every one promo, you should be providing at least 10 genuine, valuable tweets … besides it’s a social network, which means its meant for you to be SOCIAL.
Addressing some COMMON QUESTIONS:
Q. What about “automation”?
A. I personally use automation. I feel, used respectively with good knowledge, its vital for your success on twitter. With that being said, if you overdo it, it can be fatal to your success on twitter. Treat automaton as a privilege and not a right! … use is sparingly and respectively.
Q. Should I have separate Twitter Accounts for Personal & Business?
A. Yes. While you want to mix things up a bit on each, I.e. sharing something like a team member’s birthday on your business profile is a good, authentic touch, you do want to separate professional from personal. Its entirely up to you, if you want to tweet about your daily activities on a personal profile (I feel it adds to the “experience” and I think a lot would agree), but having a professional profile that brands whatever business / name you want people to know about is KEY.
(note: I have about 15 Twitter accounts, but focus primarily on ONE for branding myself, @curtbizelli, ONE for branding my business name, @dreamspublicity, and ONE for branding our online media outlet, @whenmag … even though I own others for the sake of trademarks, driving traffic, etc. they are mostly automated and NOT my identity. I do not diversify my attention on too many twitter accounts, and I use effective tools to read mentions on all my twitter accounts within a matter of 1 minute flat.)

Q. How do I gain Twitter Followers?
A. over a long period of tweeting and using social management tools, day in and day out, you’ll slowly gain a following. With the exception of going the cheap route, buying Twitter Followers, where you’re not going to get as much CTR on your links nor be able to hold the follower’s attention for too long, the first is the best method. Here are a couple of free tools you can use to tweak your following to make it past that notorious 2001 followers, unfollow inactive tweeps as well as those that aren’t following you back, follow new tweeps and so much more ..
… I’ve been using these tools for years! I’m letting you in on some of my true secrets!
UNDERSTANDING HASHTAGS AND TRENDS
#hashtags are something only the Twitter-Elite know how to use effectively. This is truly one of the best ways to follow conversations as well as engage in active twitter conversation, grow your followers and build relationships that simply put, MOST PEOPLE DON’T GET! You’re either a teen pushing out random hashtags like #IlovemycarandwanttoEat (he he), or you’re the rare commodity in business leaders that gets the power behind hashtags for business.
To follow a hashtag, simply search for it including the # in twitter search. You can easily follow what is trending on twitter this way, which gives you the ability as a business leader in your industry to capitalize on the conversation.. For I.e. if you have a blog post along the lines of “10 Tips For Better SEO” and you notice the hashtag #SEO is trending, you can take it to this next level I’m going to share right now.
To engage (or tweet) using a hashtag, simply place # before a word that you want to get people’s attention for on twitter. Think of it like a keyword. So using this previous example of, “10 Tips For Better SEO”, without spamming individual users, you can simply tweet your blog post using the hashtag #SEO … do it a few times using your automation software at http://socialoomph.bizelli.info being sure to space the tweets out over a period of time, and eventually you’re sure to see results in the form of traffic and conversion.
UNDERSTANDING SIMPLE TWITTER ETIQUETTE
This has been a long blog post, so I’m going to make this simple and sweet (LOL).
Before you tweet anything, ask yourself these questions:
Would I want to be on the receiving end of this tweet?
What value does this offer / benefit to my followers?
What are the negative consequences (if any) of tweeting this?
🙂 Happy Tweeting. Please follow me @curtbizelli, and Thanks for sharing and commenting 🙂
